Spring has sprung in Collier County
Spring has sprung in Collier County

The coming of April in Naples, FL always brings in a breath of fresh air. As the northerners typically head north over the Easter holiday, the pace of everything generally slows down. Less traffic on the roads, and much less competition for restaurant tables and tee times.

Not everything stops in the off season though. Events happen, but they will feel much less crowded with a much more laid back pace.

Late spring and early summer are still a happening time here in Collier County and the calendar is chock full of family friendly events. The end of may brings the end of the Collier schools academic year and the start of summer. If you have kids in school, I bet they all have spring fever and want to start the fun before summer starts. Who can blame them though? I don't think being cooped up in a classroom is that fun is it?

Fun things to do this spring:

1: Easter Egg Hunt

I bet you are egg-cited for spring to begin. You can plan a fun egg hunt with your kids in the backyard, or go to an event in one of the local parks and let the carnage begin as kids descend on a field of eggs.

For an interesting take on egg hunts kids can scour the pool bottom for eggs at one of the Underwater Easter Egg Hunts at Golden Gate Pool or Eagle Lakes Park Pool.

2: Concert in the Park

Cambier Park, Baker Park and Sugden Park routinely host outdoor concerts in the park. Whatever your taste in music you will be able to find an outdoor concert that interests you this spring.

If you are a jazz lover, you can check out the big band concerts in Cambier Park on Sunday April 10th, and Monday April 11th.

If classical is your thing, Naples Concert Band will be playing its end of season concert in Cambier Park on April 24th at 2:00 PM.

3: Go To a Museum

4: Go To the Zoo

On the 1st Saturday of every month, the Naples Zoo is free to Collier County residents. May 7th and June 4th are the next collier county free days at the Naples Zoo. This is a fun activity for families to enjoy before the summer heat makes it unbearable.

5: Check out a dance performance

Collier County has a variety of dance groups, and the calendar is rife with performances during the spring and summer months from April through the 4th of July.

Naples Ballet will be presenting its performance of Copellia on May 29th at 8:00 PM. This is a great event for both the serious dance connoisseur or someone who is just now showing a budding interest in dance. This is a full-length ballet set to music by Delibes. In this romantic comedy ballet, Dr. Coppélius the toymaker creates a life-size dancing doll named Coppélia. The doll is so lifelike that young Franz becomes romantically attracted to her... much to the dismay of his fiancée, Swanhilda.

On May 17th, at 8:00PM, the Limón Dance Company will perform to the music of the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra at Artis Naples. Founded in 1946 by José Limón and Doris Humphrey, the Limón Dance Company has been at the vanguard of American modern dance since its inception and is considered one of the world’s greatest dance companies. Choreographer and dancer José Limón is credited with creating one of the world’s most important and enduring dance legacies — an art form responsible for the creation, growth and support of modern dance in this country. Acclaimed for its dramatic expression, technical mastery and expansive yet nuanced movement, the Limón Dance Company illustrates the timelessness of Limón’s work and vision. The company’s repertory, which includes classic works in addition to new commissions from contemporary choreographers, possesses an unparalleled breadth and creates unique experiences for audiences around the world.

If you love Dancing with the Stars, or if you're British Strictly Come Dancing, check out the Crown Jewel of Dancesport Competition going on at the Ritz Carlton from May 12th - May 15th.

6: Go watch a baseball game

With the coming of spring brings the start of baseball season.

We might not have professional baseball in Collier County, but just in the north in Lee County is the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels Baseball. The minor league starts its season this spring and brings the national pass time to Southwest Florida.

7: Check out an event at Paradise Coast Sports Complex

From May 8th - July 9th, Naples United FC, Naples own professional soccer team has its season with home games on May 8th, and 21st, June 4th, and 26th, and July 2nd.
