Collier School Spring Break Events
Collier School Spring Break Events

The Collier County Public Schools will be having spring break from March 11th, through the 20th. This is a time when the kids are off school and you need to find something to keep them and yourself occupied.

St. Patrick's Day falls during Spring Break for Collier County School students. This means a plethora of St Patrick's Day events are available in addition to a busy calendar of events.

Ideas for fun outings during Spring Break week:

Go to the Naples Zoo

Spend the day checking out the many animals, and see unique animal shows like the "safari canyon show".

Don't miss Naples Zoo's newest event, Spring Safari. This event was designed to be an educational and exciting spring break resource for families with children in Collier and Lee County schools. The Collier County Spring Safari event will be held on Wednesday, March 16, Thursday, March 17, and Friday, March 18.

Naples Zoo invites you to meet some of the kings of the jungle in their land, dance the day away with a DJ, enjoy a fun show with professional magicians, jugglers and big cat shows.

Take the safari to another level with face painting, keeper talks, educational shows, and the Primate Expedition Cruise. Join Naples Zoo for a party that gets bigger and better around every turn!

Activities include character meet-and-greets, live entertainment, activity and education stations with local non-profit organizations, and endless photo opportunities. Guests can also see their favorite animals receive special spring treats! All of the Spring Safari activities are included in regular Zoo admission.

Visit the Conservancy

Check out the Natural History Museum and take a boat ride on the Gordon River to see endangered wildlife. Tour the natural history museum, take an electric boat ride on the Gordon River and see how you can make a difference in your local and global environment.

Take a walk through Corkscrew Swamp

Take a walk on the boardwalk in Corkscrew Swamp. This is best done now, in the dry season when there are fewer mosquitoes.

Attend the Naples St. Patrick's Day Parade

On March 12th, 2012, Fifth Avenue South will host the annual St. Patrick's Day parade. The parade will feature irish themed floats, as well as bagpipe bands, and traditional irish music and dance.

See an Irish Dance Performance

Go to the Beach

March is a great time to visit the beach, but it can get a little crowded with parking hard to find at the busier locations. This is by the way "peak season" in the Naples area. You should be able to find plenty of space at the less crowded locations like Tigertail Beach or the beach end streets south of the Naples Pier.

Its always a nice to enjoy a sunset beachside picnic, or for a nice day on a deserted island put your cooler on a raft and float over to Sand Dollar Island at Tigertail Beach. Its only like a football field length from the main Tigertail Beach.

Those "blow up pools" make excellent rafts and will hold two people and a cooler comfortably on a quiet journey across the lagoon out to a little slice of paradise,

Tour the Gollisano Children's Museum of Naples

This is a great experience for kids in the Naples area. With STEAM education opportunities and fun play areas this is perhaps the best kids experience in the Naples area.

Kids can invent something in the Inventioneers Lab, or check out the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the sewer. Explore their sewer-like lair, where good guys win and bad guys lose! Since 1984, these four iconic brothers have rocked it with their talent and teamwork, inspiring generations. Now families can join these pizza-eating, crime-fighting “heroes in a half shell” to hone their ninja skills and problem-solving intellects while learning the secrets of the sewer!

Visit the shell exhibition on Marco Island

See elaborate seashell artworks usually relegated to pirate ships and private collections at this special limited engagement exhibition. On March 10th, 11th and 12th from 10:00AM to 4:00PM these unique artworks will be on display at the New Life Community Church off Elkcam Cir on Marco Island. Various works will be available for sale / raffle if you desire to become a collector yourself, or are are already an avid art collector.

Check out the Turtles on the Town

You may have seen the painted and bronze turtle sculptures throughout the Naples area. These make for an interesting scavenger hunt to find them all. I know gas is expensive, but going on a "turtle tour" can make for a fun local scavenger hunt. There are over 25 turtle sculptures throughout the county, and many are located at points of interest. This can be a fun activity for sometime during the spring break week.
